Case Analysis Process Review
A case analysis was
conducted during a recent course in unmanned aerospace systems. The purpose of
the assignment was to identify an issue in the current UAS industry and prepare
an analysis in response. This post serves as a review of the case analysis’
effectiveness, relevance to my current occupation, and my recommendation for
improvement on the process.
The case analysis tool
is capable of assisting students in developing research skills as well as
strengthens a base understanding of the chosen topic. For me this unfortunately
was not the case, however with more time devoted to research, a deep
understanding of my single topic is certain. The step-by-step process including
the peer reviews allows for development to be gradual and encourages the
student to remain on the right path. The peer reviews on my case analysis were
helpful, though possibly less critical than they should have been. By my
reviewing other peers’ analysis I was able mold my own work according to
attributes I appreciated in others work.
A case analysis has
the potential to have utility by way of identifying many issues that are
specific to my current line of work as a Software Test Analyst. Whether an
issue is identified in the process of the software release or the company wide tracking
software used for tracking enhancement changes, a strong case analysis can
assist in presenting the issue and providing the research on the changes that
are recommended. Not only does a well-written and well-researched case analysis
promote awareness of an issue but also the recommendations give a potential
solution to management. By providing strong recommendations the stronger the consideration
by management for implementing the suggested changes will be.
Lastly, a
recommendation for the case analysis process for this particular class would be
for the topic not to be required so early in the course. As a novice UAS
student, the problems and issues associated with the industry are not as
readily identifiable as one may assume by week two. A topic selection made
without any background knowledge may lead to challenges with research and
following the process and utilizing peer reviews. If eight weeks is mandatory
for research than the suggestion would be to have the topics of choice presented
to the professor for review, discussion, and approval prior to research
beginning.
